Editorial policy and corrections

Rent is a lot of money over many years: an error of one euro per square metre quickly adds up to a thousand euros a year on a family flat. This is how we work.

Responsibility

Radif Partners is responsible for content and calculations. Contact: contact@mietcheck-rechner.de.

Official sources only

  • the Civil Code, the Service Charges Ordinance, the Heating Costs Ordinance, the Carbon Cost Allocation Act and the Living Space Ordinance as published on gesetze-im-internet.de;
  • the tenant-protection ordinances of the 16 states, read in each official gazette;
  • the cities' rent indexes as published by the city or the associations;
  • the Federal Statistical Office's consumer price index and the Berlin Senate's service-charge overview.

Cities' rights

We only use figures from a rent index when the city publishes them freely or under an open licence, and then always with edition, date and field. We never show a whole table. Where a city reserves its rights, none of its figures appear on this site.

No referrals

We earn nothing from refunds, legal-tech services, law firms or agents and name none of them.

Tests

Automated tests run before every release: the brochures' worked examples, the municipality lists of the large cities, deadlines and caps. If a value differs, nothing is published.

Review cycle

At least every 12 months, with every new rent index and before each state ordinance expires.

Corrections

  1. Check against the official source.
  2. Fix the data or code, add a test.
  3. New date on the page.
